Many lectures and seminars are provided by the Fusae
lchikawa Memorial Association, and FIMA plays an important role
in offering political education, from politically neutral standpoints.
In particular, the Center to Promote Women's Involvement
in Politics, started in April 1994, is achieving good results by
training would-be women candidates on the local level. This Center
was designed to facilitate women's advancement into politics, as
at present the ratio of women in the Diet stands at only 11% and
local assemblies at only 6%, even 56 years after obtaining women's
suffrage in Japan.
FIMA also acts as a homebase of activities for many
women's NGOs such as the League of Women Voters of Japan , and offers
an arena for a variety of activities. There are supporters of FIMA
throughout Japan.
